October 2021
From BIEC’s Desk
Finally, exhibitions are back on track after a long gap of 20 months. The series of coronavirus induced lockdowns had made it impossible to hold in-person events during 2020 as well as the first quarter of 2021. Things began changing with the vaccination drive, exhibitions restarted from Las Vegas to Barcelona and from Dubai to Shanghai.

UFI, the global association of the exhibition industry is preparing to host a face-to-face Congress in November 2021 followed by the Global CEO Summit in Germany in January 2022. India also took off by holding a few exhibitions in Delhi-NCR and Bangalore. According to the Indian Exhibition Industry Association (IEIA), over 60 events are planned for the October - December 2021 quarter.

It was a pleasure to host the 37 th edition of the prestigious India International Jewellery Show Premiere at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) which was a runaway success. As the largest show post-Covid, IIJS Premiere, organized by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council, featured more than 1,300 exhibitors, over 2,500 booths, in an exhibition space of 77,200 square metres, attracting a footfall of 50,000 visitors.

Technology and people connect played a very important role in making this show a grand success. We also acknowledge the stellar support of Government that added strength to organisers as well as the venue to organise a seamless show.

I feel that Community Connect, Technology and SOPs are the elements that works making shows a success and these would be paramount in any future events and exhibitions, as well.

The Government of India’s move to allow fully vaccinated foreign tourists to visit India is a welcome step and will provide a fresh lease of life to the exhibitions and events industry, as well as travel, hospitality and aviation sectors.

With the massive vaccination programme initiated by the government and more than 90 crore population already being vaccinated and nearly 70% of the population getting vaccinated by end of this year, things are expected to normalize. This will encourage both tourists as well as business visitors make their travel plans ahead of the year-end tourism, exhibition and events season.
