Opening Up of International Flights to Boost Exhibitions and Events Sector

Bengaluru, 14 March 2022: After a prolonged gap of 2 years India will resume regular international flights from March 27, 2022 onwards. The Government of India arrived at the decision following extensive consultations with all concerned stakeholders besides taking stock of the increased vaccination coverage across the globe.

Although air bubble arrangements with key destination countries had ensured global connectivity during the pandemic period, the resumption of international flight services spells good news for commuters.

With flight rates being more competitive and affordable, the resumption of international travel will pick up. This bodes well for the exhibitions and events industry as well as travel, hospitality and aviation sectors.

The Indian Exhibition Industry which organizes around 550 events annually with revenues of around ₹ 26,500 crores per annum has opened up to organize shows.

Welcoming the Government’s move to open up international travel, Ravi Raghavan, President of, the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA) said, “With more than 80% of the adult population in India being fully inoculated, business visitors can travel to India with full confidence of being safe during their stay in India for business or tourism purposes.”

Ravi Raghavan further added, “Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) is bracing up to hold major industrial shows such as EXCON, IndiaWood and IMTEX FORMING, etc., in the next few months and opening up of international flights will be a great confidence booster for exhibitions and events industry so that they can expect a large number of exhibitors and visitors from across the globe.
